KISC 2017

Over the past few months, the leadership team have discussed at length the possibility of an International camp to give the EFS Explorer Unit an opportunity to take part in a trip such as this. After careful consideration and consultation we have decided to run anther international camp over the Summer of 2017 to Kandersteg International Scout Camp (KISC), Switzerland.

There are a number of reasons why we have decided on KISC specifically;

• Over 12,000 Scouts from 40 different Countries visit KISC each year and at any one time up to 1200 Scouts from all over the world will be staying at the centre
• Kandersteg is situated at 1200 meters above sea level, in the breathtaking Bernese Alps in South West Switzerland.
• Explorers will get the opportunity to take part in some very unique activities and trips
• All Explorers will have the opportunity to obtain two of the Kandersteg Awards, which are unique to the KISC. The KISC Challenge and the High Adventure Awards
• We have run two very successful camps in 2009 and 2013

We have begun the planning process and would like to send an open invitation to all members of EFS who will turn 14 by the 1st August 2017.

The camp will be for 11 nights, leaving the UK on Saturday 12th August, retuning on Wednesday 23rd August 2017. We have managed to secure accommodation at the Old Chalet building at KISC on a full board catering. We will be travelling by air to Switzerland and taking the train to Kandersteg.

Whilst the programme is yet to be fully decided, we have designed a basic programme to give an example of the kind of activities and day trips that would be available to us. We will endeavour to build a programme that takes full advantage of our unique surroundings:

• Warm-up hike/Rodelbahn/Alpine Lake Swim
• Overnight hike staying above the tree line
• Brigerbad Thermal Swimming Pool Visit
• Rock Climbing/Mountain Biking
• ZipFlyer/Trotti Bike experience
• Historic City Visit
• Onsite Eco, Environment and International Workshops

As you would expect, a camp of this scale would have a larger cost than our usual summer camps. The cost of this camp will be £900 and all accommodation, food, activities, transport/transfers, full European Insurance and branded clothing will be included in the price.

We are asking for a £50 non-refundable deposit to secure a place on the trip which is payable by 1st December. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come bases.

We appreciate that the total cost is a big commitment and would be proposing the following payment plan;

Future Camps
Date Amount
1st December 2015 £50
1st March 2016 £175
1st July 2016 £175
1st November 2016 £205
1st February 2017 £205
1st April 2017 £190

It is really important that we receive payment in line with the above timetable as at each point, payments for transport, accommodation need to be made.

Cancellation Terms

Each payment made in line with the above payment plan will be non-refundable and should you cancel your place you will forfeit any money that has already been paid unless a replacement can be found.

Fund Raising

We are suggesting that a significant effort be put into fund raising to keep the cost of the trip down. This would require commitment from those attending the trip and help from parents We hope that some parents will come forward to help with the fund raising committee.

Kit List

Explorers are required to bring their own personal equipment for this trip. The following downloadable list is a guide to what is generally required although more specific information will be supplied at the time by the leader as part of the camp information. It is strongly recommended that the Explorers are encouraged to find out from handbooks what is necessary and to pack their own kit.
