Local Explorer Scouts Take Part in New Years Day Parade

Two Explorer Scouts from South Woodford took part in London's New Year's Day Parade through the streets of Westminster.

Scouts in the borough were asked by the Mayor of Redbridge to help with the Mayor's Charity Appeal by acting as street collectors during the London New Year's Day Parade.

Two Scout Districts, Epping Forest South (EFS) and Ilford East, responded to the request and at 08:30 am on the 1st January two Explorer Scouts from South Woodford were waiting outside Redbridge's Ley Street depot to board the coach for Parliament Square.

Chris Pollard and Sam Hustler walked alongside the two Redbridge floats which depicted 'Youth Past & Present' carrying collecting buckets. Chris (17) said 'I never realised what a huge event this is'. The procession wound through the West End from Parliament Square via Trafalgar Square and Regent Street to Piccadilly.

Rob Youd, Explorer Scout Commissioner for the EFS District said 'It is great to see young people from diverse organisations and backgrounds giving up their Bank Holiday to do something worthwhile for local charities'.
