Summer Camp 2009

We will be taking a group of Explorer and Network Scouts to the Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland. Kandersteg (www.kisc.ch) is a part of the World Organisation of Scouting Movements (WOSM) and was founded by Baden Powell in 1923 as a permanent mini-Jamboree where Scouts from all over the world could meet.

This will be a great opportunity for the Scouts to mix with others from around the world as well as experience camping in a picturesque valley surrounded on all sides by mountains from the Swiss Alps.

One of the main aims of this trip is for all those participating to complete and earn the ‘High Adventure Award’. They will experience walking in the mountains, swimming in an alpine lake and stay over night in a hut above the tree line to name just a few. Other excursions and activities include a visit to the Jungfraujoch train station (the highest in Europe at 3454 metres above sea level).

The dates for the trip are as follows:

  • Leave UK on Friday 31st July 2009 in the early afternoon
  • Return back to the UK on the afternoon of Sunday 9th August 2009.

The estimated cost of the camp will be £600 per person, which includes the following:

  • Return coach travel
  • Accommodation (we will be staying in tents during our stay, theses are being provided by the travel company for us, this minimises the amount of equipment required)
  • Food (we will be utilising the centres catering facilities and will be going full board, this enables us to plan an activity based camp without worrying about cooking)
  • All activities and excursions (see attached documents for more information)
  • Travel, Medical and Mountain Rescue Insurance.

Further details will be posted here as and when we receive them.
